What do you hope to accomplish in the 2018 session?
My goal is to make sure we can correct the structure on balancing our state budget. Looking at off-the-top money and how we can put some of that money back in the Legislature’s hands to oversee how that money is spent.
What do you hope the Legislature will accomplish?
I’d like to see us come up with solutions and not have the bickering and fighting in the session. You’ve seen that over the last couple of years. We’re not getting things done from that standpoint. I’d like to see more apportionment reform done to put the decision back in our hands.
What should people know about you?
This will be my 10th year in the Legislature. We’ve done a lot of good things. We shored up teacher retirement. We’ve done a lot of good things – you just never hear about them in the press, really. On a personal level, I enjoy public policy and being a servant of the people. I’m very humbled to spend the last 10 years serving as a legislator in the state of Oklahoma.
