What do you hope to accomplish in the 2018 session?
The big goal for me personally is we need to invest in our future, our education system, as good as our regional competitors are. We haven’t done that during my tenure, and I’m not sure we’ve done it in a long time. The teacher shortage is the key issue for our state. If we can’t keep quality teachers in our classrooms, then we will suffer for it in the future.
What do you hope the Legislature will accomplish?
As a whole, we need transparency, and we need the public informed and knowing what’s going on. Too much is decided behind closed doors and rolled into these bills. The public has to deal with the consequences, and sometimes they don’t even know what’s being done. The system is set up for politicians to hide, and I want more courage and elected officials to do what’s right, even if it’s not easy.
What should people know about you?
I am a product of and am currently operating in the middle class. A middle class Oklahoman who respects small busisneses and our working-class families. We need to make sure the middle class can thrive and make sure the tax burden doesn’t shift only to the middle class. We need broad plans where the middle class doesn’t get punished for going to work every day and making society run.
