What do you hope to accomplish in the 2018 session?
My primary goal for the 2018 session is to turn upside down the way agencies work with the Legislature; I would call this Right-Side-Up Government. I am strongly in favor of term limits, but term limits, along with other factors, have negatively impacted the Legislature's ability to control, primarily in the sense of funding/spending, the very entities for which it is our primary responsibility to manage – state agencies.
What do you hope the Legislature will accomplish?
I have other goals in addition to my primary goal above, but as for the entire Legislature my hope is that we continue to make changes as we have over the last decade or so that will put Oklahoma on better footing as we move forward. As we have rescued teacher retirement, gotten roads and bridges on a solid path forward, fixed workers’ comp and other positive steps, we need to continue addressing our fiscal health as we hopefully climb out of the bad economy of the last eight years to make the greatest state in the nation, Oklahoma, even better and stronger going forward.
What should people know about you?
Having learned a hard work ethic from my father, who worked tirelessly his entire life, I set my goals to success in business and am very proud of what my wife and I have accomplished over the last couple of decades. After my first child was born – my beautiful Holly Elizabeth – I looked around me with a new vision of what the future meant for my children and I dedicated myself to getting involved and making a difference. This is when I decided to run for office to try and take the knowledge and success I had gained in the private sector and offer what I can to making our state the absolute best it can be. I think it is critical that we seek God's wisdom in governance and in life, and I want to help however I can to re-instill that in state government.
