What do you hope to accomplish in the 2018 session?
What I hope to accomplish and what I hope the legislature will accomplish are really the same. We need a reliable revenue base and we need to give the executive branch more authority and responsibility. Our constitution was written in the early 1900s when the populist movement was strong. There was no trust of any concentration of power. So we have had numerous boards and commissions throughout the years with very little accountability. This has been a concern and an issue for some time. But I believe there is a good chance we will do something about it this session

What should people know about you?
My legislative service has been during my retirement. It is a great time for public service. I believe in compromise and know that sometimes it is better to go for half a loaf. You can get the full loaf later if your half works. That is not applicable for all legislation but it is appropriate for more than you would think. We need to work together and compromise regardless of ideology or party. Once elected forget the politics and govern. We don't seem to be able to do that as much today.
