What do you hope to accomplish in the 2018 session?
Being a freshman with only one session under my belt, I hope to speed up my learning curve in the Senate and continue growing positive relationships with my fellow senators. I also hope to build more positive and sustainable relationships with members of the House of Representatives. These relationships built on trust are a must to move legislation forward designed to positively impact Oklahomans.
What do you hope the Legislature will accomplish?
My hope is that we can come together in a bipartisan manner and negotiate a budget agreement for 2019 that will put Oklahoma back on a level playing field financially without the use of one-time money or revolving funds. I hope that we can put our political differences aside and work together on a sustainable revenue package that will adequately fund our core services and give teachers and state employees a much-needed pay increase. I hope we will look hard at curtailing tax credits and incentives that have put us in this bind.
What should people know about you?
I have served many communities as a teacher, coach, athletic director and school administrator. I have been married for 38 years and have three sons who are all Army National Guard Iraq War Veterans. I have three wonderful grandchildren. I was a two-time COSSA District Administrator of the year in 1998 and 2000. I was the 2000 COSSA Oklahoma Secondary Principal of the Year and Met-life Semi-Finalist for National Principal of the Year.
